Our featured partner
Clive Lim is local to Mulu. Born and raised in Limbang, Sarawak (a short boat ride from Mulu), he lives and breathes adventure. If he's not running up the mountains, he's adventure caving on all fours, or cruising down the rivers searching out wildlife. We handpicked him for his sense of responsibility to the communities around Mulu and his straight up honesty.
He works closely with the local native tribes to ensure they are involved in every way of your stay: the longhouse accommodation, the boatmen, guides and porters. He contributes back to the community in a big way. He's also slowly educating them to appreciate the value of eco-tourism, and to turn from their traditional hunting ways. And their respect and admiration in return for Clive is outstanding. Your dollar is ultimately contributed back to the community.
Clive runs an outfit of professional certified guides that will ensure you have a memorable adventure in Mulu.

Information on Gunung Mulu National Park
"Located near the northern corner of Sarawak, the Gunung Mulu National Park covers 52,000 Ha of rain forest spread over flat plains and towering mountains. The National Park was established in 1975 as a conservation and study sample of Borneo’s rain forest. The Park’s only permanent inhabitants were nomadic Penan and it was a traditional hunting area for the people of the local Berawan tribe.
Most of the Park is occupied by the mass of Gunung Mulu itself, a sandstone mountain rising to 2377m. To the west of Mulu is a line of limestone mountains representing an ancient ridge that has been cut into separate peaks by the rivers which drain westward off Mulu. The highest of these peaks is Gunung Api, at 1682m, famous for its razor sharp pinnacles of rock and, to its north, Gunung Benarat with its spectacular white cliffs." - www.mulucaves.org
The mountain has one of the most spectacular cave systems on earth. With over 26 major caves located and amongst them the Sarawak Chamber which is the largest in the world. The Mulu National Park has 1,500 species of flowering plants including 170 species of orchids, 67 species of mammals, 262 species of birds, 47 species of fish and 281 species of butterflies.
The main attractions around Mulu are:
- World Heritage Site - Mulu Caves (4 show caves): Deer, Lang's, Clearwater and Wind cave.
* Deer cave - the single largest cave passage known to man and home to millions of free tailed naked bats

* Clearwater cave - named after an underground river system that flows through the cave systems and culminates with high velocity through this chamber. This is the longest known underground river in South East Asia.

* Lang's cave - containing gorgeous formations that adorn the walls
* Wind cave - named after its natural air conditioning and containing colourfully named chambers such as King's and Lady's chamber.
* Sarawak Chamber - the world’s largest discovered underground
cavity located in Gua Nasib Bagus/ Good Luck Cave, The
chamber measures approximately 700m long, 415m wide and 80m high. In width, you could almost fit 7 units Boeing 747's (5 unit Airbus A380) from wing to wing. In length, almost 10 units! (Almost 9 unit Airbus A380). To reach Sarawak Chamber is almost a full day and requires a reasonably fit person. It is in the adventure caving category.
- 'The Pinnacles' - a series of limestone razors that mystically jut out half way up Mount Api. The trail is only 2.4kms but the ascension is 1200m up a steep path to a viewpoint looking out over the Pinnacles. This is Malaysia's 5 star hike.

- The Headhunter's Trail - an 11.3 km trek through the jungle of mostly flat terrain. Retrace the steps of the Kayan headhunting war parties who paddled the same route a hundred years ago through the Mulu area to attack Murut Longhouses and Chinese farmers. This trail takes 4-5 hours to reach 'Camp 5', the base site for the ascension up the Pinnacles. Download map of the Headhunter's Trail here ( (670Kb).

- Mount Mulu - rising up to 2377m above sea level, the trek to the summit of Mount Mulu requires advanced planning and will take 4 days / 3 nights.
